JJ THORP
My first introduction to rowing was 1985ish, as a spectator at a rainy Head of the Charles. Fast forward to 2005 when a friend suggested I try the novice program at the Marin Rowing Association and I was hooked at 41 years old. I’ve been able to progress through the different teams with excellent coaching and the support of family and teammates. I’ve been lucky enough be in boats with local, regional, national and international success. However, the greatest success has been the camaraderie of the team and the broader membership of the club. I have served an abbreviated term on the board and would like to continue my work on the facilities as well as other areas.
Professionally, I have been a long time employee of the University of San Francisco with responsibilities that first included directing the departments of student housing and campus police. More recently I have supervised the design and construction efforts for the campus and am currently responsible for the Facilities Management area of the University.
I just celebrated my 30th wedding anniversary and have two daughters, 19 and 22 years old. My other hobbies include photography, archery, indoor rock climbing, technology and shoes.
