Alex Mauer
Adult Novices' Coach

Alex Mauer followed in his brother's footsteps by joining his high school freshman squad. Growing up in Buffalo, NY, Alex rowed out of the legendary West Side Rowing Club. Alex went on to row for SUNY Buffalo where he split time between the lightweight team and eventually the Heavyweight men's team. With eight years of rowing under his belt, Alex headed off to California.

After getting married, he found himself in possession of an older racing single. Alex once again fell into the trappings of the rowing world, when he was asked to join the St. Ignatius coaching staff leading the Novice Girls Wildcats. After four years, Alex saw his opportunity to "make a break for it" by moving to New York, where there was no chance for anything rowing, mainly due to the lack of water access.

But alas, his brother sucked him in to helping out with the fledgling Hudson River Rowing Club in Poughkeepsie, NY. In early 2003 Alex found himself back in bosom of Marin County with some time on his hands. "Why not see if Marin needs coaches?" thought Alex. "Maybe this time will be different." So here he is, coaching Marin Adult Novices. He enjoys his team and Marin tremendously and hopes to have a long-lasting stint with us here.
